The startup Ubica Robotics GmbH, which emerged from the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, received the Science Award—worth 50,000 euros—in the “Best Startup” category. The award was presented by the EHI Foundation on June 1, 2022, in Düsseldorf.
Since its founding in 2020, Ubica has been developing autonomous scanning robots that create digital twins of retail stores. Its technology is based on research findings from the “REFILLS” project, funded by the European Commission, and provides information on product locations, store layouts, and actual inventory and sales figures. By identifying gaps on the shelves, a significant increase in efficiency and productivity can be achieved in retail stores, as the supply chain can be optimized individually for each store. This not only makes processes more cost-effective but also improves the shopping experience for customers.
We congratulate Dr.-Ing. Ferenc Bálint-Benczédi, Georg Bartels, Alexis Maldonado and Jonas Reiling as founders of Ubica for this special award.
