Professor Tanja Schultz, our esteemed member and the respected head of the Cognitive Systems Lab at the University of Bremen, has been appointed as a member of the Federal Chancellery's newly established Expert Council on Health and Resilience.
The Expert Council on Health and Resilience is a pioneering initiative and succeeds the Corona Expert Council. This advisory body is made up of 23 outstanding scientists from a wide range of disciplines, including public health, epidemiology, ethics, medicine and many more. The Council's mission is crucial: to support our healthcare system and society in responding effectively to future health crises based on scientific evidence.
Chaired by Professor Heyo Kroemer from Charité and co-chaired by Professor Susanne Moebus from Essen University Hospital, the Council is a concerted effort to make our healthcare infrastructure more resilient and robust. This initiative is not only a response to the lessons learned from the pandemic, but also anticipates the challenges of climate change and demographic change.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphatically underlined the importance of this initiative: "In order to skillfully master future health crises, the formation of a diverse council of experts is essential. The pandemic has taught us the invaluable lesson that our healthcare system needs to be strengthened. Not only are we preparing for potential future health emergencies, but we are also taking proactive measures in light of climate change and demographic shifts. This broad-based approach is fundamental to our resilience strategy.
