Award Ceremony of BBDC 2025 – Basic Track- celebrating Bremen’s young tech talents!

Young minds tackling real-world challenges with data, AI, and creativity.

The BBDC-Basic Track is a hands-on initiative that gives high school students in Bremen early exposure to AI, data science, and engineering. It nurtures curiosity, teamwork, and creative problem-solving by connecting classroom learning to real-world applications.

On April 29th, we proudly celebrated the outstanding achievements of student teams from across the region at the Final Event and Award Ceremony, hosted at Cognitive Systems Lab (CSL), University of Bremen.

Over several months , 21 student teams from 8 schools tackled interdisciplinary programming tasks that reflect real applications of technology in research and industry. Their creativity, technical skill, and perseverance were truly inspiring.

This year’s challenges included:
• CSL Track – Detecting human motion with AI
• ZARM Track – Designing water recycling systems or building a Mars rover
• MEVIS Track – Predicting heart attack complications using health data and AI models

Organized by CSL, ZARM, and Fraunhofer MEVIS, and generously supported by Stiftung Bremer Wertpapierbörse (BWB), the BBDC continues to be a vital platform for fostering the next generation of STEM professionals in Bremen.

 Congratulations to our outstanding winners:
• CSL Track – Akkurater Overfitter (Gesamtschule Bremen-Ost)
• ZARM Track – 4 Gewinnt (Gymnasium Horn)
• MEVIS Track – Innovative Rübenköpfe & BigData-SmallBrains v2

“It has once again been demonstrated that there is a significant number of motivated and capable students in Bremen’s schools who are eager to compete in academic challenges. I was personally very pleased with the high level of the tasks and solutions presented. As the BWB Foundation, we will continue to support this project in the coming year.” — Heinz Brandt , BWB

“AI is already shaping many aspects of life. Through this playful challenge, young people gain important skills in working with AI and developing algorithmic solutions—preparing them for the fast-paced tech future. If it sparks interest in studying computer science at the University of Bremen, we’re especially delighted.” — Prof. Tanja Schultz, CSL

“We want to get talented students interested in big data at an early stage and give them hands-on access to exciting applications in this field.” — Arthur Belousov, BBDC Basic track Coordinator

A heartfelt thank you to all students, educators, mentors, and partners who made BBDC 2025 such a success.
