The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) is funding research on generative AI and its effects on people and society. The call for proposals welcomes mono-, inter-, and transdisciplinary projects addressing epistemic, interpersonal, cultural, and ethical questions.
Expertise in computer science and technology is explicitly encouraged, but the scientific focus must be in the humanities or social sciences. Projects can last up to three years, or four years for junior research groups.
Approximately €15 million is available across two funding rounds, in 2026 and 2028. The deadline for the current round is November 30, 2026.
