The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) is funding research on generative AI and its effects on people and society. The call welcomes mono-, inter- and transdisciplinary projects on epistemic, interpersonal, cultural and ethical questions.
Computer science and technology expertise is explicitly welcome, but the scientific lead must lie in the humanities or social sciences. Projects can run for up to three years, or four years for junior research groups.
Around €15 million is available across two funding rounds, in 2026 and 2028. The deadline for the current round is 30 November 2026.
