On 6 October 2026, the third AIIS cohort met for the first time at its orientation. More than 1,300 people applied for the International Master’s Programme in Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems (AIIS) this year, and only 40 got a place.
Programme director Prof. Tanja Schultz and Phaneendra Saya Boina, MMM’s Innovation & Technology Transfer Manager, gave the new students a head start. They introduced Bremen’s AI landscape, from DFKI and the University’s research labs to local start-ups. They then walked the students through the programme’s two specialisations: Machine Learning & Cognitive Systems and Cognition-Enabled Robotics, followed by guided research and the master’s thesis.
The students now know where to begin and what surrounds them: a city that has just hosted IJCAI-ECAI 2026, 14 professors across robotics and machine learning, and opportunities like the Bremen Big Data Challenge.
Welcome to Bremen, and welcome to AIIS!
